Watauga County Farmers' Market
Saturday Morning September 10
Area farmers are enjoying this spell of cooler temperatures. Recent rains were also welcome even if a bit overpowering. Saturday is looking to be the best day of the week and we are all looking forward to another beautiful day at Watauga County Farmers' Market.
Zydeco Moon Organic Farm will be featuring delicious red raspberries, heirloom tomatoes, Ashe County pimento peppers and Doe Hill gold peppers, delicata, butternut and acorn squash.
Shady Grove Gardens & Nursery will have white oriental lily bulbs for $1.00 along with huge yellow onions. For planting there will be basil, rosemary and lavender and a small amount of orange thyme. You will also find an assortment of flowers and grasses for drying, including Statice, hydrangeas and millet.
Goldenrod Gardens is back with Moon and Stars Watermelon, Sylvetta arugula, spinach, radicchio, Rainbow chard, Rainbow cherry tomatoes, mixed kale, Poblano peppers, giant Jalapeno peppers, Cherry Bomb peppers, yellow Nu-Mex peppers, Habanero peppers, Serranos, Ashe County Pimientos, and Mini Bells. There will be plenty of cilantro, parsley, basil, and mint to complement all of those hearty veggies, as well as a few shallots. Stop by early for the greens you crave. There will be some beautiful flowers available in complementing vintage vases. Wreaths are coming.
Vendor of the week: Lulu's Sweet and Savory
Laurie Weiner delights marketgoers weekly with delicious and creative flavors of bread puddings and frittatas.
The wait for goat milk feta from Ripshin Goat Dairy is over as there will now be some for sale. Come to Lulu's Sweet & Savory for flour free frittatas and scrumptious bread puddings, and Blue Ridge Apiaries will continue to offer sourwood, wildflower, infused and creamed honeys.
Tumbling Shoals Farm will be roasting all varieties of peppers this weekend. Roasted peppers are delicious and preserve well in olive oil or the freezer. Sunshine Cove will have Tuscan kale, microgreens and hot and sweet peppers. Faith Mountain Farm will have a good selection of sunflowers this week: traditional yellow, double flowered yellow, burgundy, yellow with purple tips. Sourwood honey and spring honey complement the whole grain breads and are used to sweeten their granola. Muffins and cinnamon rolls will satisfy your morning hunger with that good cup of coffee from Bald Guy next door.
Mark and Dawn of Mountain Memories Farm typically run specials on different products from week to week. This Saturday they will be offering 20% off of rack of lamb, 10% off on whole chickens and 18 pack eggs for $5.
